Five Ways to Keep Your Daughter's Quinceañera On A Budget
by: Michael Kabel
A Quinceañera, among other things, is nothing if not a thousand different ways to spend money. Now that your daughter's planning her fiesta celebration, you probably feel like she's discovered every single one!
But protecting your daughter from going overboard when spending money is a natural part of your role as parent. She'll need your help seeing through the endless fleeting temptations that pursue her money. Think of it this way: she's growing up, but she's not grown up. And she'll always need your help.
Presented below are five ways to help your little one keep a clear head when spending on her Quinceañera celebration:
Don't spend a lot on what's not readily seen.
We say reasonable because there's sometimes no way around spending a lot of money on something that's undeniably perfect. Just the same, not every item has to be the most perfect or expensive. Finding deals and bargain on items that are used but not likely to draw attention to themselves - such as table linens, background floral pieces, and table services - lets you refocus the saved money on other, more visible things.
If you're looking for a way to save plenty of money on items such as table linens or flatware, try an outlet mall or online closeout retailer. Floral shops might also have specials that will let you save money.
Rent instead of buy
It's cheaper to rent party materials instead of buying them, and this applies to a lot of the "foundation" party supplies mentioned above. You can rent floral pieces of many different sizes and shapes from most florists. Caterers and party supply warehouses often rent tables and chairs, stages, and other physical equipment. The venue where the fiesta will be held will also likely rent the same equipment. You can save money in transportation costs by renting from the venue itself, if they're cheaper.
Buy online to save money
Many online retailers and stores offer substantial discounts on a broad range of party supplies. Buying online saves you time and money driving around from store to store, and you'll also find a wider selection and variety of choices.
The downside to online shopping is the time taken for delivery. Make sure you understand a Web site's shipping and delivery policies before finalizing your order.
Once the order arrives, be sure to check your bank balance right away, to make sure the correct amount was charged.
Buy early, and return what you don’t use
Buying early means shopping well in advance and holding onto to something for the sake of a good deal. You may see something at a holiday sale or end of the year closeout (or one of those annual spring white sales) that can keep for months if carefully preserved in a closet.
When setting up the decorations, don't open everything all at once but open only what's needed. The unused, unopened materials can go back to the store for a refund.
