Preparing Your Quinceañera Fiesta Feast by Michael Kabel
Maybe more than anything else at your Quince fiesta, your guests are going to remember the food! A good party includes lots of delicious food and plenty of beverages, so you'll want to make sure the meal you serve is big enough and tasty enough to match all the rest of your preparations. The quince feast can complement the theme you choose, or it might be your favorite meal. There's no guideline and no etiquette to follow and no rules about what makes a proper service. In fact, you should probably think of the food you serve as just having a lot of people over for dinner. The type of dinner party you're throwing is the question, though. Is it a formal, elegant affair, or is it simply some friends getting together to swap stories and enjoy each other's company? The food you serve, by and large, strikes the mood of the party.
There's plenty of ways to consider preparing and serving the feast. The following five are meant to just get your brain moving in the right direction.
A Feast With a Side of Theme The food you serve is a great way to evoke the fiesta's theme. And make no mistake: whatever theme you pick, there's almost certainly a style of cuisine or a particular type of menu that make's a perfect compliment. If you’re choosing a beach theme, you can treat your guests to a Hawaiian style barbecue. Or, if you're planning a holiday theme, why not recreate Christmas with a roast or turkey with all the trimmings? As a rule, it's better to pick your theme first and build the menu around it, so you'll know what food to arrange for serving your guests.
Food from the Old Country Because the Quinceañera is all about honoring traditions, you might serve your guests a specially prepared meal from your heritage. Odds are, at least one member of your family remembers or has kept recipes from the "old country." When your guests arrive at the fiesta, they'll be thrilled you've honored your family's culture by incorporating its cuisine.
Only the Best Why not just forget choosing and set out the most opulent meal available? If your fiesta budget can stand the heat, giving your guests a fanciful gourmet meal is a guaranteed way to bowl them over. You might have a chef prepare the dishes, or you might simply get the recipes and trust the catering company's staff to prepare the meal. (To be fair, many catering companies have chefs already on staff.)
Something For Everyone Short of giving the best, you might also allow every guest to choose for themselves. Setting out a giant buffet allows people to get up and move around, and for everyone to have their fill. It's also sometimes cheaper than banquet style meals.
Everybody Helps You can also choose to have everyone request or bring their own dish to the proceedings, especially if you're looking to save money at the fiesta. Remember, your guests are proud of you and want to help you celebrate. There's a true charm to the meal everyone collaborates on, and bringing everyone together is a great way to begin the new phase of your life.
