Quinceañera Del Otono: Planning Your Fall-Themed Quince Celebration by Michael Kabel
When you think about it, autumn is the season most famous and most admired for all its beautiful changes. The temperatures dip down from the heat of summer, the leaves on the trees shift color and seem to catch fire, and the warmth of the holidays is just a few weeks away.
Even if your Quinceañera doesn't happen to fall during the months of September through November, the autumn-themed quince celebration is still a delightfully sophisticated way to amuse, entertain, and amaze your guests. Planning them is simplicity itself, too!
The Decorations
Decorating your autumn fiesta can include any number of rustic earth tone color palettes or vivid hues of red, gold, and brown. You can hang great banners from the tops of your venue's ceiling to show the brilliance of the changing season. Dried and real leaves both make a great accent to any fiesta table setting. Many guest favors are specially tailored with pressed and dried leaves, and other leaf ornaments especially for evoking a sense of fall's cool romance and elegance.
The decorations you choose can be handmade, too, since in the fall the ingredients are right out in the open. For example, gathering loose branches and twigs gives you the beginnings of a lovely basket centerpiece. Pressed leaves can become lovely place cards, and pinecone sachets and pine needle topiary are simple yet charming to behold.
Your Gown and Your Court
Your gown should reflect one of the colors of fall - the scarlet, burgundy, or pure gold of the autumnal season. The gowns of your damas can counterpoint your gown, so that together you represent the full spectrum of the season.
For your chambelanes, their tuxedos don't necessarily have to be black and white, but they should share the warmth and elegance of the autumnal colors. Something in a dark brown is elegant and masculine without seeming contrived (as colored tuxedos often do).
The Food & Drink
The Quinceañera is a time to give thanks for your growth and maturity. So for an autumn theme, why not host a second thanksgiving? Your fiesta feast can include roasts and turkeys, rice and all manner of steamed vegetables, plenty of piping hot bread, and of course lots of beverages.
For dessert, you can serve ice cream over pumpkin pie, or blueberry and cherry pie a la carte. Gourmet chocolates in fall designs are perfect Quinceañera guest favor keepsakes that provide a treat long after your party winds down.
The Entertainment
To go with the sumptuousness of the fiesta, why not play only the best in sophisticated music? You can recreate an old-fashioned autumnal cotillion with classic swing and jazz music, letting the refined atmosphere of the music enhance the romantic glow of your decorations. The waltz could be something very traditional - maybe even your father's choice of songs.
The dancing will go on long into the night, since nights are long in autumn, and the guests can come away with their favors and plenty of memories. The autumn quince anos fiesta is a great way to celebrate the holiday season, or to transport you guests to that special time of year.
