On The Beach With Your Quince Fiesta
by Michael Kabel

A beach-themed Quinceañera is an opportunity to show your guests the power of your imagination and your generosity in entertaining them. Unlike many other themes, which revolve around a specific idea or occasion, the beach-themed quince fiesta is versatile enough to involve any number of different motifs and design schemes.

The fiesta you plan could be a formal occasion or just a bunch of friends hanging out on the beach. As always, the choice is yours!

Presented below are three ideas for hosting your beach-themed Quinceanera celebration. You can take each one as a whole or use parts from each. Before you decide, though, you should check with your padrinos and see if they're open to such an unusual locale.

Beach Ball

There's no reason a fiesta by the seashore can't be elegant as well. A Quinceañera fiesta makes a perfect occasion for a party at a yacht club, at a marina, or even at a seaside park. Your guests can wear their best formal fashions and dance to the music of the waves, and dine on boardwalks or piers especially decorated for your coming of age celebration. The decorations and food should match the elaborate quality of the attire, and the favors you give should show your own culture and refinement.

Casual Party By the Ocean

But why not throw something less formal, so that your guests can "let their hair down" and enjoy themselves a little? A semi-formal occasion also works great with an ocean-side backdrop.

Your guests can come dressed up but not so formal that they might feel uncomfortable in the sea spray or humid ocean winds. If you hold your fiesta inside, the atmosphere will be so much more laid back because of the relaxed dress code.

And with the more relaxed vibe comes more mellow decorations and entertainments. You can imagine you guests will feel better about staying later into the night if they’re more comfortable, and you can adjust the food and entertainment to be less official and more about just unwinding and hanging out.

Come As You Are

If the casual party is kind of laid back, the come-as-you-are beach party is all the way relaxed and ready to let it all hang out. Staging this kind of fiesta tells your guests that their good time is your top priority, and that you want them to be comfortable. The music can be a mixture of everything you like, the favors can be cute and charming, and the food can be simple stuff everybody likes to eat. This kind of party can go on all night, whether it's indoors or out on the sand and surf.

The come as you are party, because it’s so informal, can also be Bring Your Own Food, as well. Guests can each bring a dish of their own and everybody can share, creating a feast that's as diverse as all your friends and family. You might create a sign up list ahead of time, so that you don't have a lot of repetition in the dishes, but otherwise everyone's creativity can go crazy. The bring-your-own approach is also helpful for the quince girl on a budget.
